Yep. And yesterday I started to set on some eggs… well… not LITERALLY.

After nearly a whole day of fiddling with the temp control, I finally got the incubator temp stabilized at 99.5 F. so I took the 19 eggs I’d collected over two days and popped them in.

If all goes well, they should start hatching on the 29th or the 30th.

Of course, there will be an inspection next week to make sure things are moving along. I’ll candle them and see if there is “development” of the chicks, or not. If the eggs were not fertilized, there won’t be any development, and the dogs will get a treat. Or if the incubator gets too warm, or too cool, for too long, then the eggs will not develop normally, and so more treats for the dogs.

So… we’ve done this before. If things are going well at the one week mark, then we’ll start setting up the nursery. A large plastic swimming pool, infrared/heat lamp, clean up the feeders and the waterers… diapers… ummm… no. No diapers. I did diapers a long time ago. Unless the kids get busy and provide grandkids, no diapers. Mess, yes. Diapers, no.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
