It’s A Calf!

HDCover 026

Today at about 14:00 CST “Willy” the Jersey Heifer had her first calf. I checked her this AM and she was passing her mucus plug, so we kept tabs on her, and she is now a mommy.

She was licking the calf off and giving us and the dog evil “Better not mess with us! Go away!” looks like a good mom will do.

As soon as the calf is up, we’ll figure out whether it’s a heifer or a bull calf.

I’d called the vet earlier to put him on notice that we might need him, she being a first-time heifer and all,  and then called back and let him know that all was well and he could sleep tonight instead of having to go out in the cold and help birth a calf. I hope “Lavender” was watching and learning how it’s done so when she has her calf, it will go well.
